PROGRAM DHARA

Urban slum communities face immense challenges—poverty, overcrowding, lack of healthcare, and little to no access to mental health resources. In response, we launched Program Dhara in 2023, a community-driven mental health initiative that has already begun transforming lives.

One of the most profound impacts of Dhara has been among men in the community, many of whom have approached us seeking help for anger issues and alcohol abuse—two major contributors to the cycle of violence and domestic abuse. Through therapy, counseling, and structured interventions, men have shared that they have stopped harming their wives, are learning to manage their emotions, and are striving to rebuild their families. This is where the cycle of abuse ends.

The name Dhara, meaning constant flow, reflects our mission: to build a sustainable network of community mental health workers in marginalized communities across India. By embedding trained mental health leaders within these spaces, we ensure that individuals and families have ongoing access to critical mental health support—not just in moments of crisis, but as a continuous resource for healing.

Through community outreach, one-on-one therapy, psychoeducation workshops, and capacity-building initiatives, Dhara is creating lasting change. At its heart, the program provides a safe, dedicated space for psychological first aid, family therapy, group support, and individualized care for at-risk youth. A rigorous referral system ensures that those in urgent need receive professional mental health intervention.

Dhara is more than just a mental health program—it is a movement towards healing, accountability, and transformation, breaking generational cycles of abuse and trauma, one family at a time.
